The calmfilms project began in response to a call from an NHS matron for non-intrusive moving images for use on screens in a hospital ward. Prompted by research findings showing that healing and recuperation are hastened by exposure to images of nature, we are making an expanding series of films of British Landscapes to promote feelings of calm; a reflective and meditative state of mind. The films are being made by artist film makers in consultation with health professionals. They are available on DVD, or as projections and flat screen installations, commissioned as part of healing environment design.
Each film is like a moving painting showing subtle shifts of light and texture in the landscape. The soundtrack is natural sound captured on location.
the dvd collection is currently undergoing trials with HEADWAY, a charity helping people with brain injuries.
